Intersections and right of way

Not started

Who goes first at stop streets, yield signs, uncontrolled intersections and when turning.

Stop sign. Come to a complete stop in line with the sign or before the stop line, and move only when safe. At a 3-way or 4-way stop, vehicles proceed in the order in which they stopped. If two vehicles stop at the same moment, yield to the one on your right.

Yield sign. Slow down and give way to cross-traffic and to pedestrians crossing or about to cross your path. Stop only if necessary.

Uncontrolled intersection (no signs, markings or lights). Yield to any vehicle that arrived before you; if you arrive together, yield to the vehicle approaching from your right.

Turning. Before turning right you must yield to oncoming traffic going straight or turning left. When turning either way, pedestrians already crossing the road you are entering have priority. When turning right, pass to the left of any traffic island or traffic officer controlling the intersection, and enter the left side of the new road.

Blocked intersection. Do not enter an intersection, even on a green light, unless you can clear it. Obstructing the free flow of traffic is an offence.

Traffic officers. A traffic officer's signal overrides any traffic light or sign. Obey the officer.

Railway crossings. A stop sign at a level crossing requires a complete stop. Never stop within the railway reserve.
